Choosing a Web Designer

A large number of small business owners have difficulties with deciding how to make the right choice for designing their website. They search the web for help with the website and find that the choice is harder than they thought. At the moment there are (literally) hundreds of thousands of websites who says to be professional web designers. However, one must be careful in deciding on the best person or people through which to trust their company image. In this article, I will make an attempt to classify web designers into controllable groups, and teach you the difference between the types. web design Geelong

Web-site designers fall into four general categories: durham region amateur, freelance professional, Net Design Company, Web Advancement Firm.

Freelance Amateur

The majority of site designers you will come across, especially searching the world wide web, are virtual assistants. That is, those who do web design but are not employed by a web design company. A few are self-employed professionals but almost all of these freelancers are amateur-hobbyist types. They find a copy of FrontPage? included their MS Business office? Suite. They learned how fun it could be to make website pages so they started telling their friends that they could “design” web pages.

The “pros” of using an amateur is that they are incredibly cheap. The “cons” are too numerous to mention, but I’ll mention a few. They have no training; they have little understanding of what makes a good website work; they do not understand Web coding or CSS but only FrontPage point and click; they do not understand general design and layout concepts and in addition they have little real experience. The biggest reason they should be avoided for the serious businessperson, is that their work appears amateurish, making your company look amateurish. Who desires that?

Freelance Professional

An expert is often defined by just being paid. People feel that if you are taken care of something, then you are professional. Probably that’s true in the Olympics, however for the business services world, you’re not a professional until you are established and respected as one because of your clients and peers. Freelancer professional web designers are a huge leap from the novice because they have set up a portfolio of reputable work. They may have some sort of competent training and experience and they have credentials that can be verified by contacting references. They have a good reputation with their clients and other professionals. In general, a good freelance professional wordpress website designer can be good person to obtain doing your site. But they are hard to distinguish from the amateur when you are just searching the net.

The upside is, if you find worth keeping they are significantly cheaper compared to a web design company. But that is usually the only upside. If the budget limits you, then a freelancer will do for a tiny project. But anything at all seriously important should be left to a professional company.

Some downsides to by using a freelance pro are that they are usually part-time, meaning they are limited in how much time they can dedicate to your project. Fortunately they are limited in what they can do for you. Most freelancers are specialists in one area and generalists in everything more. Some have no skills in anything except their one specialty and often you will have to find others to complete roles. Additionally, freelancers are not always cheap although many of them are aspiring to develop their own company; many are highly sought after and demand $100 per hour or more for work. My personal advice this is, if you have very much to spend, go with a company with a team of pros to get the job done in a timelier manner.
